MMSC Staff 2023

Leaving a Legacy

Over the years Missouri Main Street Connection has employed individuals dedicated to supporting the impact of local Main Street organizations through their extensive knowledge of their respective fields. We are fortunate to have a team with diverse Main Street backgrounds. As time moves forward, some of our distinguished staff will retire. Although we believe they won’t fully retire from Main Street, through service at the local level, we honor their years of service to MMSC and the State of Missouri.

Phyllis Vandernaald and friendsAfter many years of service to Missouri’s Main Streets, Phyllis retired from Misouri Main Street Connection in the Fall of 2014. From the very beginning of Missouri Main Street Connection, Phyllis moved from the Branson Downtown Mainstreet Association with Gayla to start the organization. Throughout her time with MMSC, Phyllis oversaw bylaw reviews for new Main Street programs, tracked economic development statistics, and wrote grants for MMSC. In her retirement, she moved to Chicago to live closer to her children, adopted a kitty, Snicklefritz, and continues to be active in her church community.

From the very beginning of Missouri Main Street Connection, Diane advocated for the need of local Main Street programs. Almost 20 years later, that coordinating program, dreamed up by herself, Gayla Roten, and others, is a strong organization. Throughout her time with MMSC, Diane oversaw special events, conferences, and much more. In her retirement, she gets to spend more time in Clinton, MO which she calls home and go on adventures with her husband Ed.
