Main Street Assemble: Techniques for Recruiting and Selecting a Working Board of Directors

At the foundation of every successful Main Street program is a well-prepared, working board of directors. Join Norma Ramírez de Miess, President of Community Revitalization Strategies, during MMSC’s full-day workshop to equip your organization with the process and tools for recruiting a functional and transformative board. The strategic process for building strong boards that lead with vision and purpose includes intentional recruitment, elections, onboarding, continuing education, and thoughtful planning and evaluation.

Participants will learn how to:

  • Recruit new board members strategically to ensure diverse skills and perspectives.
  • Conduct board elections with clarity and transparency.
  • Onboard new members effectively so they are engaged and ready to contribute.
  • Develop board members into leaders who champion the organization through training, advocacy, and working with volunteers.
  • Evaluate board performance to strengthen accountability and long-term impact.

By focusing on this process your organization will assemble the people who will guide your Main Street’s district towards sustainable success.
